3 Moves NY Giants still need to make this offseason
2. Part ways with WR Darius Slayton
In order to be able to make any additional signings, the Giants are going to have to release players to be able to add players. The way the wide receiver room has been built up over the past two seasons, Darius Slayton is falling down the depth chart and could potentially be released before his current deal expires after the 2022 season.
Slayton has shown flashes throughout his three seasons with the Giants, but nothing has ever really materialized so far, and it looks like he will most likely leave the team after this season. The Giants paid big money to Kenny Golladay to be the No. 1 receiver for Daniel Jones, which looked like a disaster last offseason.
He will be expected to turn that around and he should with new head coach Brian Daboll and his coaching staff. The addition of Kadarius Toney who showed bursts of potential last year as a rookie and 2022 second-round pick Wan’Dale Robinson look to be key future offensive pieces in the Schoen and Daboll era.
This has resulted in Slayton’s future with the Giants being unknown. Slayton is due almost $2.6 million this year and has only $58,000 in dead money, allowing the Giants to cut the receiver for essentially next to nothing this summer. Releasing the former Auburn talent will allow the G-Men to invest that money into bigger needs such as cornerback.
