1. Let Blake Martinez do his thing

Linebacker Blake Martinez is an underrated piece of the Giants defense and to the entire team as a whole. His presence was greatly missed last year after he went down Week 3 and was sidelined for the rest of the year with a torn ACL. Martinez’s future was somewhat unclear due to him potentially being a cap casualty and the fact that he is coming off of a big injury at 28 years old.

However, Martinez has agreed to take a pay cut and will remain in New York for another season. Martinez could be in for a big return year and will play a crucial role in the linebacker room in this new look Giants defense. The 2017 tackles leader is the perfect player to be a captain and leader of the defense under new defensive coordinator Don ‘Wink’ Martindale.

Linebacker CJ Moseley perfected this leadership role under Martindale back when he was with the Baltimore Ravens, and has took his leadership traits and put them to good use for the New York Jets. Moseley has been a great veteran and leader to the young Jets defense, and Martinez shares the traits to have a stab at it with the Giants. Martinez is well liked and respected amongst his teammates and would be the perfect player to step up into a leadership role for the defensive unit in this new regime.
