The drama surrounding NY Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay and the New York Giants just keeps on going and going. Matter of fact, NFL insider Ian Rapoport has Twitter buzzing thanks to his update on the disgrunted receiver.

Last week while speaking to the media, Golladay made it wasn’t clear with his playing time and he also didn’t rule out requesting a trade. Per Rapoport’s source, the Giants could look to part ways with Golladay if things don’t improve in the near future. That could even come as soon as after the Week 3 Monday Night Football game with the Cowboys.

Plain and simple, things have not gone according to plan for the Giants with Golladay, who they signed last offseason to a four-year, $72 million deal. Trading Golladay won’t be easy, but could some teams show interest in acquiring him if the price is right?

How could the NY Giants pull off a Kenny Golladay trade?

The Giants trading Golladay indeed won’t be easy thanks to his monster contract – he has a base salary this campaign of $13 million and $13.25 million for 2023. As Rapoport stated in his piece, the Giants would have to eat a large chunk of Golladay’s 2022 salary if they want to get him off the team. No one is going to trade for him and then pay him the massive amount of money he’s owed.

This is similar to the Jimmy Garoppolo situation with the 49ers. Yes, teams would have loved to land him, but they weren’t going to pay so much dough for Jimmy G. The same can be said for Golladay. A team would welcome him with open arms if they were able to play him on a discount, with the G-Men covering the majority of the expenses.

"“As of now, the situation is tenable,” Rapoport wrote on the situation. “If Golladay becomes disgruntled or his relationship with New York becomes more of a problem, the Giants may take action. A release would be a last resort. A trade, however, is possible.”"

Rapoport added that Golladay, per his sources, has been doing everything right and he’s showing up for work each day ready to grind. However, the situation between the two sides isn’t pretty and Golladay wants to be out on the field turning heads. The fact that he only played two snaps against Carolina shows how little faith Brian Daboll and Co. have in him right now.

Which teams could try and trade for Kenny Golladay?

If the Giants do agree to take on a big portion of Golladay’s deal, then surely multiple teams will be blowing up Joe Schoen’s phone. Two teams in particular that we think could make plenty of sense hail from the NFC North: the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

Starting with the Bears, they were actually linked with Golladay as a potential target over the summer. Chicago’s offense is downright vanilla and second-year quarterback Justin Fields could seriously use some extra weapons on the outside to help him out. Chicago is lacking a head-turning amount of talent for the wide receiver room.

With the Packers, this team just isn’t the same with Davante Adams now in Las Vegas suiting up for the Raiders. Fans still can’t get over the fact that Adams is catching touchdown passes from Derek Carr instead of Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay is lacking talent at WR as well, with Rodgers needing an exciting player to throw to. Who knows, maybe Golladay is the missing link.

Kenny Golladay can put an end to this with a big game vs. Dallas

Yes, everyone is talking about a potential Golladay trade, but this doesn’t mean that it will end up going down. Remember that Rapoport said this is only an option for the G-Men and they ‘could’ look at trading him. However, let’s say Golladay has a strong game against the Cowboys and scores his first touchdown in a Big Blue jersey?

The people inside of MetLife Stadium would surely erupt in celebration and it’d be a huge moment for Golladay. If the talented wideout can put things together and help the Giants take down Dallas, and improve to 3-0 in the process, then things really could end up getting back on track for him with the squad.

If that doesn’t happen, however, and Golladay finishes with only a handful of snaps again and no catches, then we’ll know for sure that he’s not in the plans for Daboll and his staff.

Then, we could really see the trade buzz reach a different level. Stay tuned to see how things play out for Golladay during Monday Night Football. The game may end up giving us a big clue on his future.
