Once again, it wasn’t pretty from start to finish, but the NY Giants made the necessary plays to improve to 7-2 on the year. The Giants are used to playing close games and that was once again the case in the 24-16 win over the Houston Texans at MetLife Stadium.
There’s plenty of room to improve for this team, but Brian Daboll and Co. won’t complain about coming out on top against a stingy Houston squad. In this piece, we have our four takeaways from the action, including something fans have been wanting for quite some time.
4. Finally a strong start on offense for the Giants
What, an opening-drive touchdown for the G-Men? That’s exactly what went down on Sunday vs. the Texans, as Big Blue went on a 10-play, 68-yard drive to kick things off. Things were highlighted by a 36-yard pass from Daniel Jones to Darius Slayton, and the drive ended with a touchdown pass from Danny Dimes to Lawrence Cager.
It goes without saying, but slow starts on offense have been a nightmare for this team throughout the year. It has been quite frustrating to see, with the NY supporters calling out Mike Kafka quite a bit for his lack of execution. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case in Week 10, as the Giants started the game off with a bang.
The rest of the first half didn’t go as planned, though, as the offense couldn’t do much of anything ahead of the halftime break. However, Jones found Slayton for a 54-yard score to open the second half, which had everyone at MetLife fired up. We’d love to see more opening-drive scores from this team moving forward.

3. Darius Slayton ate his Wheaties on Sunday morning
This was exactly what Slayton needed for this NY offense. You want to talk about a breakout game, Slayton had that against the Texans and everyone loved seeing it. As we mentioned above, Slayton helped set up the opening score with his 36-yard reception. He wasn’t even close to being done making big plays for Jones, however.
Early on in the second half, Slayton made his day quite memorable with his 54-yard TD from Jones. Slayton broke a tackle early on in the sequence and fans were just hoping for a first down. Slayton had other ideas, as he showcased his amazing speed and he flew down the sideline for the monster score. What a job by No. 86.

Jones was under heavy pressure and he managed to get the ball away right before he was taken down. Slayton appeared to juggle the ball a bit, but he still hauled it in and had the presence of mind to turn upfield. The Giants wide receivers haven’t done much of anything for Jones this year, but it feels like Slayton is getting better with each game. More big showings are on the way for him.

2. The Kenny Golladay headache isn’t going anywhere
This was another week where people had high hopes for Kenny Golladay. Surely, this was going to be the week where he proved that he can still be a superstar for this team for Jones, Daboll and Kafka, right? That wasn’t the case, as folks are once again left scratching their heads with Golladay’s play.
Things were rough for Golladay on Sunday, especially in the first half. Late in the second quarter, Jones delivered a perfect ball for Golladay to bring in and potentially go upfield for a big play. Instead, he recorded yet another brutal drop. The boo birds started raining in from the stands and understandably so.
Kenny Golladay HAS to catch this. Zero excuses. pic.twitter.com/kHTwEJ2Akm

That young man’s reaction was spot on. You can see him yelling ‘do something’ at Golladay. For someone who’s on a four-year, $72 million contract, there’s really no excuses for not catching that ball. We’ve all been patient with Golladay, but enough is enough. It feels like the less he’s on the field, the better things can be for this offense. He can’t be trusted for the G-Men.

1. A big showing for Daniel Jones
He’s not the flashiest guy in the world, but goodness, Jones keeps getting the job done for this team. This felt like Jones was developing more and more confidence as the game went on, which was awesome to see. He had the touchdown throw to Cager, and then things were made even better with his toss to Slayton.
Not only that, Jones made some big plays in key situations. After the Houston Texans scored on a Nico Collins TD, the Giants were clinging to a 14-10 lead. There were a lot of nervous people inside of the stadium. However, Jones was able to calm those nerves by leading the team on a nice drive, which ended with a Saquon Barkley touchdown.
On that drive, Jones found recently-signed wideout Isaiah Hodgins for a big gain. Hodgins came down with the sweet grab and it’s obviously big for him knowing that Jones trusts him. Again, Jones isn’t a QB known for his swag or flashy play, but he looked strong vs. Houston. He’s a big reason why this team is 7-2.
