Now that he’s back on the field for the NY Giants, star safety Xavier McKinney is opening eyes with his fantastic play. McKinney has missed most of the season following his ATV accident in Mexico during the team’s bye week, but he’s back and ready to help the G-Men try and take down the Eagles.

McKinney feels lucky that he’s reunited with his teammates on the gridiron, especially with how scary his accident in Mexico was. While speaking to the New York Post, McKinney went into further detail about what happened. As it turns out, his injury was so serious, he nearly lost three of his fingers.

NY Giants DB Xavier McKinney nearly lost 3 fingers in his ATV accident

"“First of all, to show how bad the injury was, I don’t think people understood the magnitude of what it was,” McKinney told Steve Serby of the NY Post. “They didn’t really understand how broken that it really was. I think a lot of people didn’t understand that I coulda really lost three fingers. I was almost close to losing three of my fingers.”"

This is tough to read about McKinney. As soon as his injury was announced, countless Giants fans were furious that he had put himself in danger in the first place. McKinney is such a big piece of this defense, and the fact that he injured himself on a joy ride didn’t sit well with so many.

Now, though, people are just thankful that McKinney didn’t lose any fingers and they’re relieved he’s feeling much better. This had to be a total nightmare for the young defensive back. You’ve got to feel for him, as he’s sure traumatized from this ordeal.

Looking ahead to Saturday night, McKinney will look to put all the tough memories from 2022 behind him to try and help the G-Men beat the Eagles. The winner of this one will move on to the NFC Championship Game to take on either the 49ers or the Cowboys.

McKinney made plenty of headlines with his game-sealing tackle on T.J. Hockenson last Sunday. We’ll see what he has in store for Saturday in Philly. Win or lose, though, McKinney is grateful to be playing again. His injury in Mexico could have been much worse than it turned out to be.
