The offseason is here for the NY Giants and it’s going to be a busy few months for general manager Joe Schoen. There are several priorities for the young GM, with all eyes on quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley.

In a perfect world, Schoen will franchise tag one player and agree to an extension with the other.  Recently, news dropped that the Giants and Danny Dimes were close to finalizing an extension, which had plenty of people in New York and New Jersey pretty fired up.

However, while Jones has stated his desire to return to East Rutherford next season, he told the media that he and the front office aren’t close to signing anything just yet.

Will the NY Giants agree to a contract extension with Daniel Jones?

"“I’ve really enjoyed being here,” Jones said while speaking to the press on Sunday. “I have nothing but love and respect for this organization. I’d love to be back. But, we’ll see, and there’s a business side of it too. So, I’m very grateful to be here and be a part of it.”"

From that quote from Jones, it’s clear he wants to return to the Giants and try and get this team back to the Super Bowl. He exceeded expectations this season, really impressing with his right arm and wheels. However, Jones understands his value in this quarterback market and he wants to make sure Schoen takes care of him.

Schoen and Co. have a tough decision to make. They can either get an extension done with him, or place the transition tag or franchise tag on him, both which would be north of $30 million for the 2023 season.

In addition to Jones, Schoen must also figure out what to do with Barkley, who is eyeing a new deal himself. We should find out more on these playmakers in the coming weeks, but we don’t envy Schoen here. There’s some tough calls he has to make, but this is why he’s in the big boy chair.
