From the moment it was reported by Mike Florio that NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was looking for around $45 million a season, all hell broke loose. Just where in the heck did Danny Dimes get the nerve to ask for so much money? We won’t lie to you, that’s exactly what we were thinking, as there’s no way Jones should even sniff that amount of cash.

Well, it turns out Jones may have never been looking for that kind of a deal at all. If you ask WFAN’s Craig Carton, Jones’ former agency allegedly made things up to stick it to the Big Blue signal-caller.

NY Giants QB Daniel Jones could be headed for the non-exclusive franchise tag

A passionate Carton didn’t hold back with what he had to say, as he want all-in to defend Jones and the speculation that has been flying around. Before that $45 million figure dropped seemingly out of nowhere, the assumption was that a new contract for Jones would be for 3-4 years, and around $35-37 million a season.

That feels a bit more in line with what Vanilla Vick is worthy of. This past season, Jones turned his career around by not only throwing for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns, with 700+ yards and seven more scores on the ground, but also by powering Big Blue to the postseason for the first time since 2016.

Jones had ice in his veins throughout the campaign and everyone loved his performance against the Vikings in the Wild Card Round. At U.S. Bank Stadium with a trip to the Divisional Round on the line, Jones tossed for 301 yards and two touchdowns in the 31-24 victory. He also added 78 rushing yards.

Thanks to his strong play in 2022, Jones has surely earned himself a payday from the Giants. The hope is that Schoen and Jones can get on the same page and work things out, otherwise the fifth-year QB is likely going to receive the non-exclusive franchise tag. With that, he’d earn $32.4 million for 2023, but the Giants would also see that same number as a cap hit.
