This move has been expected for quite some time now. When NY Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay inked his four-year, $72 million contract, everyone in East Rutherford was hoping he’d be the next superstar wide receiver for the organization to be proud of. Instead, the opposite turned out to be the case.

Golladay was a major disappointment during his first two seasons with the G-Men, only posting one touchdown during his days with Big Blue. And thanks to Adam Schefter, we now know those days will officially be coming to a close on March 15, as NY is all set to release him on the first day of the new league year.

NY Giants and GM Joe Schoen will  release Kenny Golladay on March 15

Golladay will easily go down as one of the biggest busts in Giants free agency history. He was a playmaker for the Lions, posting back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with the team in 2018 and 2019. His 11 touchdowns in ’19 helped him earn Pro Bowl honors. Then ahead of the 2021 season, the Giants gave him his major payday.

Big Blue supporters indeed dreamed of Golladay and Daniel Jones being an incredible duo for years to come. Instead, Jones didn’t even toss a single TD to Golladay, as his lone score with the organization came in the regular season finale this past campaign, with the ball coming from Davis Webb.

Golladay only started four games in 2022, appearing in 12 total contests. He was basically riding the bench for the majority of the season, which no one expected. He posted six receptions for 81 yards and a TD in ’22. In 2021, he caught 37 balls for 521 yards and no TDs.

With Joe Schoen officially releasing Golladay on March 15, it will create $6.7 million in cap space, putting the Giants north of $50 million for this offseason. More cap savings will surely be on the way as well. Things simply didn’t work for Golladay in East Rutherford, but we’ll see which team decides to give him another shot down the road.
