Remember when Joe Schoen said he’s got some plan Bs lined up for the NY Giants just in case things don’t go according to plan this offseason? While the GM also stated that there’s ‘no doubt’ in his mind that Daniel Jones will be his starting quarterback for next campaign, that doesn’t mean he’s not going to do his due-diligence on star QBs at the NFL Combine.

Such was the case on Thursday. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the G-Men met with Florida signal-caller Anthony Richardson, who has been flying up draft boards in recent weeks. Known for his dual-threat abilities, a lot of teams are a fan of the ’23 target.

As you might have been able to guess, the G-Men weren’t the only organization to meet with the 6-4, 230-pounder. Per Schultz, the stud QB also met with the Colts, Panthers, Falcons, Raiders, Ravens, Saints, Patriots and Lions.

In his latest NFL Mock Draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. thinks that Richardson will end up going in the Top 10, as he has the Seattle Seahawks trading back to the No. 9 spot, and taking the Florida Gator off the board. Geno Smith’s future in Seattle is very much up in the air, which is why Seattle taking Richardson makes sense.

With the Giants, no one knows what exactly is going to happen with Jones. The Giants have until March 7 to place the non-exclusive franchise tag on him or not. While Ian Rapoport said there’s a ‘glimmer of hope’ in the Jones talks, it feels like the tag is the most likely outcome for Danny Dimes this offseason – unless he brings his number down.

Just because Schoen met with Richardson, it doesn’t mean the Giants are going to trade up from No. 25 overall to take the big-time talent. However, Schoen is smart to meet with the QB target and do some extra work to see if he’d be a potential fit or not. In terms of a plan B, you can do a whole lot worse than bringing in someone of Richardson’s caliber. The youngster is the real deal.
