If you’re looking at the clock and refreshing Twitter every 45 seconds or so, trust us when we say you’re not alone. The franchise tag deadline is around the corner, and the pressure is on for the NY Giants to try and get something done with quarterback Daniel Jones. By Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, we’ll know if Jones will play next year on a new deal, or on the non-exclusive franchise tag.

With the deadline almost here, it looks like Jones’ reps know they’ve got to take things to the next level in their negotiations with general manager Joe Schoen as soon as possible. According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, Jones’ agents have made the trip to East Rutherford to try and work everything out in person.

The NY Giants are hopeful they can agree to terms with Daniel Jones

Something indeed needs to happen fast here for the two sides. The big news on Monday was that Derek Carr signed his four-year, $150 million deal with the Saints, bringing home $37.5 million a season. Now, all eyes are on Jones to see if he’ll be able to put the pen to paper on a massive contract as well.

Reports stated that Jones originally asked for around $48 million per season, but come on, there’s no way Schoen was going to give him that kind of a salary. Over at the NFL Combine, the two sides had been hard at work trying to meet in the middle, but nothing was able to get done while Schoen was in Indianapolis.

Now the hope is that with everyone meeting in person over in New Jersey, everyone can be made happy and the non-exclusive franchise tag will be avoided. Not only would that result in a $32.4 million cap hit for the Giants, but it would also likely end Saquon Barkley’s time with Big Blue.

Any minute now we should get the final word on Jones. What will end up happening? We’re about to find out.
