We had a feeling that star NY Giants safety Julian Love wouldn’t be back with the team next season, but that doesn’t mean Friday’s news doesn’t hurt. Love, a team captain and defensive leader for the G-Men, has played his last down for Big Blue. That’s because he’s headed to the NFC West.

Following a visit with the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, the fifth-year safety agreed to a new two-year deal to play for Pete Carroll and John Schneider. Per Adam Schefter, it’s a contract worth $12 million for the now former Giant.

Love arrived to East Rutherford from Notre Dame in 2019 and he has meant so much to the organization ever since. As excited as he is for this next chapter in his career, you can also tell leaving NY is tough for him. He made that much clear in his goodbye post to the organization on Instagram.

"“New York, it’s been an unforgettable 4 years,” Love wrote on IG. “Being a part of this Giants community has been a dream and I’m so grateful to everyone who made NY home. To the Mara family, my coaches, and all of the incredible staff – Thank you for everything, you made it a privilege to come into work each day. To my teammates – Thank you for all of the good times. Playing alongside you guys has been one of the highlights of my life. And to the fans – thanks for always bringing that NY energy. I will carry this experience with me forever. Love y’all always.”"

Love is coming off a strong campaign for the Giants, as he started 16 games (only missing the regular season finale). In 2022, the new Seattle defensive back posted 124 total tackles, five pass deflections and two interceptions.

Known for making big plays, Love helped the Giants stun the Ravens and Lamar Jackson early on in the season. In the mid-October matchup, Jackson dropped a snap and tried to fire a ball downfield. However, Love saw what was going on, jumped in front of the pass and was able to come away with the monster INT. This play was gold from Love.

This offseason, though, it really did feel like there was only a slim chance that Love would return to Big Blue next fall. Now, it’ll be on guys like Dane Belton and Jason Pinnock to step in and up their game to try and replace Love’s production. That certainly won’t be easy and Love no question will be missed.
