Sooner than later, some big news should be coming on on free-agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. After being released by the Cardinals on Friday, teams are surely lining up to try and get him to town for a visit.
Hopkins has been linked with several squads already, including the NY Giants. They're not the only ones, though. In this piece, we take a look at three teams in particular who we think could make a ton of sense for D-Hop. Where will the former All-Pro playmaker end up suiting up for the 2023 campaign?
3. Buffalo Bills have interest in landing DeAndre Hopkins
The Bills are considered the favorites to land Hopkins and it's easy to see why. Hopkins recently named the quarterbacks he'd love to play with down the road and Josh Allen was the first name that he mentioned. The Bills offense adding one more offensive playmaker could be what helps send them over the top.
In the past two seasons, the Bills have flirted with a trip to the Super Bowl, but they lost to the Chiefs in the playoffs twice and then they choked against the Bengals last campaign. Buffalo fans are hoping that this team can finally get back to the big game, with countless eyes on 2023. Adding someone like Hopkins would surely increase their odds to.
One idea that's being floated around is that if the Bills sign Hopkins, then maybe Buffalo will turn around and trade Stefon Diggs to the G-Men. Hey, we'd love to see that happen too. Hopkins to Buffalo has been floated around for a while.
With the Bills not able to trade for him earlier this offseason, perhaps the two sides can come to an agreement on a new deal now that he's free to sign with any team he desires. Buffalo is surely a team to watch here moving forward.
2. Lamar Jackson would love DeAndre Hopkins with the Ravens
Next up on our list, how about the Baltimore Ravens for Hopkins? The Ravens made a huge splash this offseason in giving Lamar Jackson his massive extension. On top of that, they signed Odell Beckham Jr. to a new deal, and they also selected Boston College speedster Zay Flowers in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Could you imagine if Baltimore were to go out and also add Hopkins for that offense? It would most definitely instill plenty of fear into the fanbases of both the Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson has never had a WR of Hopkins' caliber to throw to. He could prove to be the WR1 that the AFC North powerhouse has been missing.
With the Ravens investing $260 million into Jackson, they surely want to do whatever is possible to help him bring a Super Bowl title to the city. The Ravens are a dangerous team as it is, but signing Hopkins to a contract could end up being the difference for them in trying to take down both the Chiefs and Bills (don't forget about the Bengals) this winter in the postseason.
1. We won't give up on the dream of DeAndre Hopkins to the NY Giants
Last but not least, could the NY Giants and general manager Joe Schoen be ready to shoot their shot here? While there have been some fantastic offensive additions for this team in recent months, Big Blue is also without a true WR1. As fired up as fans are for Jalin Hyatt and Parris Campbell, they're not at the level that Hopkins is.
A major selling point the Giants have for Hopkins in his free-agency tour is that he could step in and be THE guy for the WRs room. Tight end Darren Waller is most certainly going to make a ton of noise for this team as well, but his presence alone could open up more space for Hopkins and the other G-Men receivers.
What could help NY here too is that Hopkins was spotted training with Saquon Barkley earlier this offseason. The two are friends, with Schoen having the ability of selling Hopkins on the fact that he'd be able to make plays with his buddy. First, Schoen is going to have to figure things out with Barkley, as he's not happy about being placed on the non-exclusive franchise tag.
If Schoen can get something finalized with Barkley, though, it'd also help out from a salary cap standpoint. The Giants would still need to be creative with the cap to ink Hopkins, but Schoen is a magician - he'll be able to figure something out.
Hopkins' potential with the Giants would be through the roof. He's looking for a team with a great QB, defense and management. NY checks all of those boxes. It might seem like a long shot for the Giants to land Hopkins, but we're not giving up on hope there just yet.
