This might be the best news we've heard on Saquon Barkley in quite some time. With the NY Giants running back being away from the team this offseason, Big Blue supporters have been fearing the worst for the '23 campaign.

Rumors have swirled that Barkley could not only be a training camp holdout, but that he could end up sitting out the season as well. However, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

A new update from Ian Rapoport has calmed nerves, as the NFL insider said that if Barkley and Co. can't come to an agreement on a new deal, the expectation is that he'll play on the non-exclusive franchise tag. With that, No. 26 will take home $10.1 million for next season.

The Giants and Saquon Barkley are back negotiating on a multi-year deal

"At the very least, Saquon Barkley is expected to be back with the Giants on a one-year fully guaranteed tag. It's just a matter of whether he's going to get the security that he wants. Time will tell on that one."

General manager Joe Schen has made it quite clear that he wants to get things across the line with Barkley, but the two are still working out some details for a new deal. It has been reported that the guaranteed money is a major reason why nothing has been signed of yet.

If Barkley were to play on the tag this year, plus next season, he'd be looking at around $22 million in total. However, as Rapoport noted, he's definitely looking for that long-term security from the organization.

You can't argue with the fact that Barkley deserves his payday, especially after he posted a career-high 1,312 rushing yards last season. He was a big reason why the Giants silenced all of their haters by reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Now, we must wait to see how everything plays out, but it would now be a major shock if Barkley isn't out on the field once Week 1 vs. the Dallas Cowboys arrives.
