If the Giants are picking in the top five, they will strongly consider drafting a quarterback

Sunday Night Football was one of the most demoralizing losses possible for New York. According to OptaSTATS, New York became the first team in the Super Bowl era to lose despite having more rushing yards and passing yards, fewer fumbles + picks, and fewer missed field goals.

The Giants failed to score from the one-yard line to end both halves. The first half ended due to horrible clock management, and the game ended on a botched call by the refs. Regardless, New York is now 1-5, which means all eyes are on Mock Drafts. Big Blue would hold the No. 5 overall pick if the season ended today. Here is the latest version of my 2024 seven-round NY Giants Mock Draft:

NY Giants first-round pick: Washington QB Michael Penix Jr.

The Giants should consider picking a quarterback early in April for three reasons. Number one, if you are selecting in the top five of a draft, you must consider drafting a quarterback because there is no guarantee you'll be picking in the range to draft a quarterback again anytime soon.

Secondly, Daniel Jones only has one year of money guaranteed on his contract after this year. Finally, with Jones' injury history, especially his neck injury history, there is no guarantee he can hold up physically.

Michael Penix Jr. is the Heisman favorite and a flat-out superstar quarterback. He is mainly a pocket passer, but he has athleticism and can extend plays with his legs. Penix Jr. has incredible soft touch and accuracy while throwing, very reminiscent of the way Tyrod Taylor threw to Darius Slayton on Sunday night. When I see Penix Jr., I see a lot of Tua Tagovailoa, but with a better arm.

Through six games, the Tampa native has thrown for 2,301 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has been in college for six seasons and has thrown for over 11,000 yards. In 2022, Penix Jr. threw for 4,641 yards. He is going to be a stud in the pros.

NY Giants second-round pick: Florida State WR Johnny Wilson

The Giants got their franchise quarterback in the first round, so let's get him a new target. Johnny Wilson is a mismatch nightmare and is built like a tight end. Standing at 6-7, 237 pounds, Brian Daboll can put Wilson all over the field and always have the favorable matchup.

Wilson started his career at Arizona State, but joined Florida State in 2022 and caught 43 balls for 897 yards and five touchdowns. Wilson has 357 yards and three touchdowns this year through six games for undefeated Florida State.

The big man has crazy speed and athleticism. It's hard to stand out physically as a wideout on the field since you have massive linemen teammates, but Wilson does. He is playing alongside star wide receiver and Michigan State transfer Keon Coleman this fall, who would also be a terrific selection for the Giants in April.

NY Giants third-round pick: Georgia OL Sedrick Van Pran

John Michael Schmitz is entrenched as New York's center of the future, but the Giants need a right and left guard of the future. If New York looks to add a guard in the draft, going back to Georgia, the school that has produced Azeez Ojulari and Andrew Thomas, would be a wise strategy.

Sedrick Van Pran plays center for Georgia, but could slide over to guard in New York. Van Pran is a two-time National Championship winner. This season, PFF ranks Van Pran as the third-best center in the country out of 281.

In practice, Van Pran has been forced to go up against elite defensive linemen like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, who he would be forced to play twice a year in New York. In 2021, Van Pran allowed pressures just 2.6 percent of the time, and in 2022, just 2.1 percent of the time. The Giants sorely need a lockdown pass-blocker in the middle of their line.

NY Giants fourth-round pick: Rutgers CB Max Melton

Deonte Banks and Cor'Dale Flott are both future starting corners for the Giants, but Adoree' Jackson is a free agent this offseason, and the rest of the room is filled with question marks who may not be a part of the long-term plans.

The Giants heavily scout New Jersey's only FBS team, which could lead them to Max Melton. The Mays Landing native sits at 6-0, 190 pounds, and has 97 tackles, six picks, one sack, and one touchdown in his college career. The Draft Network projects Melton, the brother of Packers wideout Bo Melton, as an adequate starter. The younger Melton has blazing speed and can play special teams, enhancing his value.

NY Giants fifth-round pick: Yale OT Kiran Amegadjie

We spend so much time talking about the Giants need for starting offensive linemen, but they also severely need quality backup offensive linemen too. The Giants backup offensive tackles are Matt Peart and Josh Ezeudu, so they will add more bodies this offseason.

Let's add a high-ceiling tackle who also happens to be a brainiac, Kiran Amegadjie. Amegadjie is a 6-5, 326-pounder currently playing for Yale and is one of the top FCS-eligible draft prospects. He also has the craved versatility, playing right guard and left tackle in college.

NY Giants sixth-round pick: Kansas State TE Ben Sinnott

Joe Schoen loves versatility, as does the offensive coaching staff. Ben Sinnott fits the bill and will be a guy they look deeply into this spring. Sinnott is a hybrid player who is a tight end, but also spends time as a fullback. New York doesn't currently employ a fullback but utilizes multiple tight ends and running back sets, which the Kansas State player would fit into.

He could be weapon-blocking in the play-action game and as a pusher on the tush push. Make no mistake: Sinnott, a 2022 all-Big 12 First-Team tight end, is more than just a hybrid player. The Iowa native has 820 receiving yards in his career, 358 of which have come in 2023. The 6-4, 245-pounder loves playing old-school nasty football. Sinnott can really block and would provide some insurance for an offensive line in New York that progressively worsens.
