This may not be the splash some NY Giants fans were hoping for at quarterback in free agency, but it makes a ton of sense for a lot of reasons. While there was some buzz that the G-Men and Joe Schoen could try and trade for Justin Fields, the front office has gone in another direction.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants have agreed to a one-year deal with former Broncos and Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock. Per Schefter, it's a $5 million contract for Lock with New York. How did fans feel about this one?

The NY Giants have agreed to a one-year deal with Drew Lock

After starting off his career with the Broncos, the team that selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Lock joined the Seahawks in 2023. Lock had a ton of hype when he arrived to Denver, but things didn't go as planned and the Broncos ended up trading for Russell Wilson.

As we all know, that didn't work out for John Elway either. Last season with the Seahawks, Lock made two starts for Seattle and appeared in four games. Who could forget him helping the NFC West side stun the Eagles in a primetime showdown in the Pacific Northwest?

Lock's stats won't jump off the page, as he posted 543 yards and three touchdowns in '23. However, the experience is there and he seems like a solid No. 2 option behind Daniel Jones for this upcoming season. Lock also takes over Tyrod Taylor's job, as he ended up signing with the Jets.

This doesn't change the offseason gameplan for the G-Men and Schoen, as they could still move up in the NFL Draft to bring in a new quarterback of the future. There indeed was some buzz about a trade for Fields, but Schoen likely didn't want to give up much draft capital, especially after the Brian Burns trade. Enter Lock, who has proven to be a quality No. 2 option.
