There have been a lot of positive updates to come out of NY Giants camp since things got going last week. However, it is still early, and we are starting to get a first look at some problems the team is currently experiencing.

Quarterback Daniel Jones, tight end Darren Waller, and wideout Jalin Hyatt are among the players that performed well this past week. However, there are still several areas that need to be addressed moving forward:

3. There are question marks surrounding Giants cornerbacks

The cornerback position concerns the New York Giants because of the uncertainty of their projected starters: Adoree' Jackson and rookie Deonte Banks. Both are set to match up against several Pro Bowl wideouts this year, which will be an obstacle for Big Blue's secondary.

Over the last three seasons, Jackson has suffered knee, ankle, and leg injuries. While the six-year veteran is prone to injury, his ability to stay healthy in 2023 will be crucial for the G-Men. Jackson is expected to play a significant role this season and serve as a mentor to rookies Banks and Tre Hawkins III.

While I believe Banks is talented and will show flashes of improvement in Year 1, his early struggles to keep up with Giants wideouts during practice bring up some concerns. The ability to overcome growing pains and make an immediate impact will be something fans will monitor. The first-round pick had difficulty locking down experienced wide receivers and got his NFL wake-up call against Waller, who could not be stopped.

Hawkins has been off to a great start so far. The sixth-round pick out of Old Dominion University is making a case for playing time but, similar to Banks, the rookie is unproven and will have to earn opportunities if he can stay healthy.

Lastly, the Giants are looking for third-year defensive back Darnay Holmes to step up in 2023. He has been the Giants' primary slot CB for the past three seasons; however, he was seen working out with the third-team defense on Monday. Hopefully, Holmes will take this opportunity to develop and get reps during camp if he wants to contribute to the secondary this season. However, there's also a chance he gets cut in the coming weeks.

2. Depth concerns for the offensive line

New York Giants backup center J.C. Hassenauer suffered a triceps injury and will undergo surgery. With him being placed on Injured Reserve, his season has suddenly come to a close. While Hassenauer was not likely to win the starting job over rookie lineman John Michael Schmitz, the injury still hurts the Giants' depth at center.

The injury provides added pressure for Schmitz to succeed. Though he was the top-rated center in this year's draft, the second-round pick out of Minnesota still needs to be more experienced at the professional level.

On Tuesday, news broke that Joe Schoen had signed former Cardinals lineman Sean Harlow. Harlow was a fourth-round selection by the Atlanta Falcons in 2017. He had a short stay with the Colts before a second stint with the Falcons in 2021, but spent the last two seasons in Arizona. It is unclear what kind of impact Harlow can bring to the Giants, but we can only hope he will provide the needed backup support.

Over the last few years, the offensive line has been a consistent problem for the G-Men. However, with the recent extension of left tackle Andrew Thomas and the improvements of right tackle Evan Neal, it was finally looking like the team was getting past those recurring issues. Let's hope the Giants' o-line can stay at full strength throughout this season.

1. Injury worries for the Big Blue wide receivers moving forward

If there's something that the New York Giants have enough of, it is wide receivers. The team learned that lesson the hard way last season when they lost Sterling Shepard and Wan'Dale Robinson to season-ending torn ACL injuries. This offseason, they stocked up on wideouts and now truly believe you can never have enough of anything, especially slot receivers.

On Sunday, the Giants activated Jamison Crowder off the non-football injury list and Shepard off the physically unable to perform list; however, Robinson is yet to return and is still recovering from a torn ACL injury in late November. The Giants also have Cole Beasley and third-round rookie Jalin Hyatt with experience in the slot.

Hyatt has had an impressive training camp so far. Over the weekend, word dropped that he clocked in a time of 24 miles per hour on the field. That's out of this world, and it's also creating a ton of buzz around his name in East Rutheford.

While we can expect Hyatt to have an impressive rookie campaign, he will have to continue to develop and still has to prove himself. There are a lot of expectations for Hyatt and this rookie class to succeed in '23.

Even though these are considered problems that the Giants have to address in camp, the team appears to be in good shape to be competitive in 2023. We'll find out just how good they can be once Week 1 arrives.
