Call this one a homecoming. On Day 3 of the NFL Draft, NY Giants fans were waiting to see if general manager Joe Schoen would draft a quarterback in the sixth or seventh round. A third-string signal-caller was still needed for the roster after Davis Webb retired to join Denver as an assistant.

No QB was drafted, but Schoen wasted no time in inking someone to an undrafted free-agent deal. That QB is Illinois' Tommy DeVito. That name might sound familiar for some of you in north New Jersey, as he was a star at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey.

DeVito helped Bosco win the state title in 2015 at MetLife Stadium. Now, he's all set to make his way to East Rutherford to play for the team he grew up watching.

This really is a fun story for DeVito. After graduating from Bosco, he signed with Syracuse. Things didn't quite work for him with the Orange, leading to him entering the transfer portal and eventually signing with the Fighting Illini.

This past season, the 6-2, 215-pounder tossed for 2,650 yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions in 13 games. His best campaign for Syracuse came in 2019, when he threw for 2,360 yards, 19 touchdowns and five INTs.

After signing Daniel Jones to his four-year, $160 million contract, Schoen knew his work for the QBs room wasn't done. Tyrod Taylor will serve as the backup for the 2023 season, while DeVito will now try to win the job as QB3.

Schoen could still look to bring in more QBs this offseason to compete for that job. For now, though, DeVito will be able to head home to NJ and give it his all to try and stick with Big Blue moving forward. This has got to be a surreal moment for him and his family.
