The Dallas Cowboys demolished the New York Football Giants in every facet of the game Sunday night. The Cowboys out-coached the Giants, outplayed the Giants, showed more effort than the Giants, and played with more intelligence than the Giants. There is no sugarcoating it: Sunday Night Football was a complete and utter embarrassment for the entire organization.

However bad you thought Sunday night was, it was worse. The Giants made all the wrong kind of history in this one:

The NY Giants are getting trolled left and right for Week 1's showing

To reiterate what you just read, since it will take your brain a second to process that incomprehensible level of poor play, no team has accomplished all of the following in a single season:

  • Lost 40-0 or worse.
  • Lost the sack battle 7-0 or worse.
  • Lost the turnover battle 3-0 or worse.
  • Had a blocked FG returned for a touchdown and threw a pick-six

The Giants managed to accomplish all of that in a single game. That game was a primetime contest against their arch-rivals, at home, in the season opener, in a year where the Giants have great expectations.

Sunday night was a perfect situation of Murphy's Law: what could go wrong will go wrong. After driving right down the field to start the game, in 15 minutes, Big Blue had a botched snap, a field goal blocked for a touchdown, a massive pass interference penalty, and a pick-six that deflected off Saquon Barkley.

Sunday was the most depressing loss of the last decade. It is not uncommon to lay an egg in the NFL, but coming out completely flat and showing little pride is unacceptable.

Despite making history the 2008 Lions and 2017 Browns couldn't even fathom, I would not write off the 2023 Giants. Big Blue has a very talented roster and one of the better coaching staffs in football. Sunday's game got off-script so fast with strange, flukey plays that went in Dallas' favor, completely throwing off the Giants.

The Giants need to pretend Week 1 was Week 4 of the preseason and move on. We will learn what Big Blue is truly made of when they take the field Sunday in Arizona.
