For months now, several NFL mock drafts have had the NY Giants taking a star wide receiver with their top picks. Jordan Addison, Jalin Hyatt, maybe even Quentin Johnston? Those names have popped up quite a bit, which has had a lot of NY supporters excited about the future for the offense.

However, could general manager Joe Schoen have something else in mind? CBS Sports just dropped its latest mock draft, and they don’t have the G-Men rocking with a stud wideout to help out Daniel Jones. Instead, CBS’ Josh Edwards thinks the Giants will go after Georgia cornerback Kelee Ringo.

Could the NY Giants end up taking Georgia CB Kelee Ringo in the first round?

"“Kelee Ringo has gotten turned around in coverage quite a bit this season, but he has the height, weight and speed that teams covet from a man coverage cornerback,” Edwards wrote on the star defensive back. “Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is the right coach for the job to maximize his skillset.”"

Ringo, a Tacoma, Wash. native, helped the Bulldogs win the National Championship once again this past campaign. He was a standout at Georgia and there’s a reason a lot of teams are excited about his potential in the NFL. Checking in at 6-2, 210 pounds, Ringo surely has the ideal size for a cornerback.

His mechanics could use a little bit of work, but as Edwards noted, who better to take him under his wing than Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. Now that he’s out of the running for the Colts job, Martindale will be back in East Rutherford and he’ll be working around the clock to make the defense even better than the unit was in 2022.

There’s going to be plenty of new faces for Martindale to work with, and Ringo would surely be an exciting addition. A lot of people in New York are hoping the G-Men do pick a wide receiver for Jones, but Schoen is surely going to take the best player available.

If receivers high on the Giants board are gone and Ringo is still there, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Schoen send his name in when NY is on the clock. Keep an eye on the young DB come late April.
