One of the biggest discussions surrounding the NY Giants this offseason is whether or not they should draft the future of the franchise at quarterback to replace Daniel Jones. There are very good arguments to be made on both sides, but when looking at some factors moving forward, it makes more sense than not for Joe Schoen to be aggressive in acquiring a rookie QB.

Not only is there likely going to be heavy competition to snag the top QB prospects in this year's class, but with Jones' massive contract, we fully believe Schoen should go all-in on trading up for a new signal-caller. That being said, here are four reasons we believe Schoen needs to address this situation sooner rather than later.

4. It's better to move on from Daniel Jones now

The Giants have spent five years trying to develop Jones and in this time he has managed to put together a singular season in which he looked like an above-average QB. Were the circumstances surrounding him perfect? No. However, Jones is going into Year 6 year six and the excuses are getting tiresome.

Even after Jones managed to put together his lone competent season in 2022, he took a total step back in '23, getting outplayed by both Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito at times. Considering he is slated to have a cap hit of $47 million this season, this is hilariously unacceptable.

With that in mind, why should the Giants continue to give Jones chances? Sure, there is a possibility that he puts it all together once more in 2024, but is it really worth the risk? If Jones doesn't look good again, the Giants will have wasted yet another season trying to develop him when they could have simply drafted a more talented quarterback in the draft.

Jones hasn't shown enough in five seasons for the Giants to keep believing in him, plain and simple. Sure, he may have led the Giants to the playoffs in 2022, but we are soon to be two seasons removed from that. It would be wise for Schoen and company to heavily invest in his replacement before the season starts.

3. Next year's draft class is weak in terms of QBs

While there could be some high risers in the form of Carson Beck or Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft, as of now, this class is looking to be pretty weak. Considering the talent the Giants already have on their roster, it's likely they won't land a Top 5 pick, meaning that even if these two rise up the board, they may not be available when New York makes their pick.

Regardless, the top prospects in this year's class are much safer selections than those in '25, so investing now as opposed to later is likely the better choice. If the Giants don't take someone this year, Jones fails, and the team is put in the position to draft a QB in 2025, it could spell disaster for the future of the franchise.

Guys like Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, hell, even J.J. McCarthy have higher ceilings than just about anyone else in the '25 class. There is a chance that Beck and Sanders become franchise players, but the risk is way higher than simply drafting someone from this year's class.

2. The top QBs won't be available at No. 6 overall

The buzz surrounding the 2024 NFL Draft has been all over the place when it comes to where the QB prospects will land. Despite this, it seems more likely than not that most, if not all of the top guys will be gone by the time the Giants make their pick. Currently, New York has the No. 6 overall pick, and it seems very likely that all of Caleb Williams, Maye, McCarthy and Daniels will be gone by then.

If the Giants are truly committed to taking a franchise quarterback, they won't take the risk by sitting at No. 6 and they will move up to secure their guy. Any of the aforementioned guys can completely turn New York around, so don't be surprised if Schoen is aggressive when it comes to making this sort of move.

We've seen Schoen be willing to trade up in the time he's been the Giants general manager. Even going back to his days with the Bills, Buffalo had the chance to trade up for their guy in the form of Josh Allen and they took their chance. Now, they have one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Given how realistic trading up is, it would be a shame to see Schoen waste this chance to fix the Giants.

1. Drafting the right guy could speed up the Giants rebuild by years

We have seen time and time again the impact of drafting a franchise QB can have on a rebuilding team. Even just last season, the Texans went from winning three games to making the playoffs just by drafting C.J. Stroud and hiring DeMeco Ryans. The Giants likely have their coach in Brian Daboll, now they need to find their franchise QB in the draft.

It's abundantly clear that Jones will not be the guy for New York. Thus, making it ideal for them to draft one of the top prospects in this year's draft class. If Schoen does this, and their rookie QB pans out, the Giants could be back in the playoffs before you know it.

There are too many examples of teams employing this strategy and it working phenomenally. To keep it simple, the Giants have the opportunity to completely alter the future of their franchise for the better. If they instead choose to remain complacent and give Jones more opportunities to disappoint, we could see a front office shake up by the end of the 2024 season.
