With the 2024 NFL Draft almost here, most people are trying to get a sense of what the NY Giants are going to do, especially in the first few rounds. More importantly, most are trying to get a sense of whether the team will go get a quarterback to potentially replace Daniel Jones early on or not.

Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN heard a suggestion that was told to him, one that had a lot of mixed reviews from the Giants fan base all over the place. The Giants trading up for a QB, but not in the first round?

It’s been a while since we’ve mentioned the Oregon quarterback being tied to the Giants, as he was once mocked to going to NY as the No. 5 overall pick during the 2023 regular season. However, in Kiper’s latest 2024 NFL mock draft on ESPN, he doubles down on Nix for the Giants, as he has the Giants trading up in the very beginning of the second round to take him with the first pick of the second day.

Could the NY Giants trade up in the second round to draft Bo Nix?

Shortly after Kiper’s mock appeared on the site, he then appeared on the Get Up show to further discuss his thought process for the Giants potentially trading up in the second round to take Nix. Is this something fans would be excited about? Probably not.

Kiper still sees Jones as the Giants starter for the 2024 season, but he also sees the Giants doing what the Tennessee Titans did last season when they traded up to get Will Levis, only in this case for Nix. Levis was the second pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Kiper has the Giants trading the No. 47 overall pick along with a 2025 second-round pick to the Carolina Panthers for the No. 33 overall pick. A year ago, Tennessee acquired the No. 34 overall pick from the Arizona Cardinals for No. 41, No. 72 and a 2024 third-round pick to move up and get Levis.

Even if Jones isn't ready to start the 2024 regular season due to the ACL surgery he underwent last year and the rehab that’s been attached to it, Nix still wouldn’t be required to start for them, as veteran quarterback Drew Lock was signed to a one-year deal in the offseason. Lock played minimally in 2023, but he did win a game for the Seattle Seahawks last year against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Nix isn’t the most popular pick for the Giants amongst the fanbase. He isn’t Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye or even J.J. McCarthy. He’s also not Michael Penix Jr. either. However, he did throw for over 4,500 yards and had 45 touchdowns in his final season at Oregon this past year. Even though Nix might not be the most popular quarterback choice for the Giants once the draft gets here, there’s a chance that he could be the QB the team ends up going with.
