It’s almost August, and the heat is showing no signs of letting up. The same can be said for Giants training camp as veterans and rookies alike vie for those last training camp spots. Here’s the news of the day:

Sean Payton’s persistence finally won out. The New Orleans Saints acquired Jeremy Shockey for a second- and a fifth-round draft pick in 2009.
“Jeremy is a player that we are excited to have on our roster. He is someone I am familiar with as a player,” Payton said. “He brings a skill set to the position that I feel will be a tremendous benefit to our offense.

A week or so ago, while on his book publicity tour, Plaxico Burress stopped by the Sirius NFL radio studios in Manhattan. While there, he noticed that inside the control room was a New England Patriots dynasty recliner — a very comfy chair with the Pats logo on it and inscriptions noting their three Super Bowl championships.
So what did Burress do? As you can see from these pictures, he signed the chair, right over the Pats logo. He wrote “Plaxico Burress, #17, XLII CHAMPS!”

More than 80 percent of the New York Giants’ current season ticket holders will be charged between $1,000 and $7,500 for the right to buy tickets for the team’s new stadium under a personal seat license plan announced by the Giants on Thursday. Licenses for some of the best seats will cost as much as $20,000.
