Plaxs Case Pushed Back

Plax's Case Pushed Back

Per Bloomberg News:

“If there is a plea, which is unlikely, we can expect that Plaxico Burress is going to be looking at spending time in a jail cell rather than on a football field,” said former prosecutor Stuart Slotnick, a partner at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC in New York. “His gun went off.”

In 2008, in New York City, 1,248 people were charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree — the same felony Burress faces. Of them, 184 were convicted of the charge, according to Janine Kava, a spokeswoman for the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

Kava said 406 were convicted of a lesser felony and that 80 percent of those people did jail time. She said 569 were convicted of a misdemeanor or less. A misdemeanor carries a maximum of a year behind bars.

The best case scenario now for Plax would be to serve 3-4 months of jail time starting in June, that way he would be back by the end of training camp. But he also would most likely be facing a 2-4 game suspension by the NFL. So really best case scenario would be to have Burress back on the field by October.

I believe this really increases our chances on putting together a trade for Braylon Edwards. Reese might even be tempted to offer his first rounder. Stay tuned less than four weeks until the draft…

It really ****s us strategically that the case was pushed back. It would have been a lot batter to have had a plea take place so we could work off that.

It also ****s us on any trade because they have the upper hand.

The only thing we could do without making a full commitment to the Plax situation is draft a receiver and hope he makes it back.
