You can’t win ‘em all

Posted by: Andrew Corselli

The Giants got beat Sunday. Plain and simple. No excuses, they just got outplayed. A 48-27 thrashing at the hands of the Saints.

Big Blue gave up 315 total yards in the first half alone. Manning looked like shit and the running game couldn’t get going. Aside from a few plays here and there, the G-Men looked like trash. The secondary got beat up like a red-headed stepchild and the outcome was never in doubt. The Saints had their way with the Giants and it reminded me of the Cell Phone Game with Joe Horn a few years back. That sucked.

I guess that’s what happens when you play a real team.

At the very least they didn’t give up more  points than the Iggs did against NO in Week 2 and scored five more points than the dog killers did. That doesn’t mean shit, but at least I don’t have to hear anything from those low-lives known as Philadelphians.

There were (very few) positives I took from that ass-raping:

  • It’s good to have Hixon back (hadn’t played since Week 2), that return set up the Manningham score. Again, it doesn’t mean much but at least it’s something.
  • The Giants kind of responded in the second quarter with the pair of TDs, but it seemed like they gave up in the third frame. I think it could have been a different outcome if not for that Eli fumble at the very end of the half. (I realize that’s like saying: “If my sister had a cock she’d be my brother,” but hey you have to find positives in games like that)
  • The receivers looked decent; Nicks had 114 yds with a TD, Manningham had a TD.

The bottom line is that the Giants have to step it up in the next few weeks:  vs. Arizona; @Philly; vs. San Diego before they head into the bye. If they go 0-3 in those tilts it could change the face of the season. Please G-men, sac up!!!

I TIVO’d the game as I was busy in the afternoon. I knew the score as I went through it so I could look at it with a critical eye.

#1) The Giants always seemed to be in the wrong defense, zone against these guys just didn’t work.

#2) Ed Hoculi is a moron. The horsecollar & grabbing the helmet opening personal foul calls weren’t. The Saints ran pick plays routinely that weren’t called allowing receivers to run free. Their offensive line & wide outs were holding constantly negating the Giants rush. It wasn’t Brees hard count that drew the Giants offsides, but he would step back & raise his arms in a dropping back motion that is illegal It was brutal.

#3) Jacobs isn’t running like Jacobs no matter what they say. Gilbride needs to go back & look at old John Riggins films & see how the Skins used to spring him free. Jacobs running outside the tackles is a no go.

#4) Let’s see the Saints do that in the Meadowlands in December. They are going to lose games. The Giants need to tend to their knitting & get them down the road. No one is going undefeated this season. It’s who is the last team standing.

We need all the help we can get. If our guys can’t do it, we’ll call on the wind, the cold, the rain, the sleet, the snow, or the groundskeeper. Unfortunately for the Giants, the Saints did it just as bad a few years ago … in the Meadowlands … in December. The elements are unreliable. I wouldn’t count on them.
