Giant OTA(s)

Good morning all!  A Giant Thursday is among us as we start to close out the week.  OTA(s) start up again today and we hope to bring you updates today and most likely tomorrow morning.

So far, not much of a read on the rookies and undrafted free agents (who were present at Citifield last night for the Mets second consecutive shutout of the NL East leading Phillies).  Something tells me that the start up of OTA(s) won’t be nearly as enjoyable as the game last night.

We’ll be curious to see if Philip Dillard continues to run with the 2nd team defense (at last week’s OTA(s), Jonathan Goff ran with the first team defense flanked by Boley on the weakside and Sintim on the strong side).  Is there really going to be a full-out training camp competition between Goff, Dillard, and Wilkinson?  My guess is the job will go to either Goff or Dillard, but it is way too early to tell.  Tom Coughlin indicated not to read too much into the lineups for OTA(s), but it is telling that Tuck and Kiwi were the first team ends with Osi Umeniyora rotating in.

Competition is key, all reports have Osi spending alot of time at the Giants facilities, along with Chris Canty.  These two guys have to step up and have big years for the G-men if the defense is going to not only return to respectability (2009 was an embarrassment for the organization and the fans) but if the Giants have real aspirations of dethroning the Cowboys for the division title, the defense is the key.

We are loving reports of new defensive coordinator Perry Fewell’s enthusiasm and the vibe is night and day different than last year’s camps with Bill Sheridan.  Is Perry Fewell the second coming of Spags?  No one is, but Fewell knows defense and has a lot of talent to work with on the defensive line, more talent that Fewell ever saw in Buffalo, so we have high hopes.

Stay Blue!
