Tuesday Practice Report / Notes

The Giants placed QB Jim Sorgi (shoulder) and WR Sinorice Moss (groin) on the injured reserve Tuesday along with rookie LB Adrian Tracy (elbow). WR Nyan Boateng was released. OG Kevin Boothe (pectoral) was moved from the active physically unable to perform list to reserve PUP list. He will sit at least the first six weeks of the regular season.

The five roster moves ensure QB Rhett Bomar will be QB Eli Manning’s backup and WR Victor Cruz will probably make the team. The Giants are down to the required 75 active roster players.

After the birth of his third son Monday, G Chris Snee is practicing Tuesday.

Rookie LB Adrian Tracy underwent surgery Monday to repair ligament damage to his dislocated elbow. The former William & Mary defensive end was working as a backup strongside linebacker.

WR Sinorice Moss had surgery Tuesday morning in Philadelphia to repair a sports hernia.

RT Kareem McKenzie (migraine) is back at practice. C Adam Koets is working with the first team in between OG Chris Snee and OG Rich Seubert. LT David Diehl is working on the blind side.

After doing some running drills Monday, LB Chase Blackburn (knee) isn’t working in Tuesday’s practice.

Rookie DE Jason Pierre-Paul appears to have overheated at Tuesday’s practice — odd considering he played his college ball at South Florida. Pierre-Paul rested and rehydrated before returning to team drills.

S Michael Johnson says his back is feeling flexible after enduring some stiffness recently. He said he expects to see a lot of playing time in Thursday’s exhibition because he has missed so much time in the preseason.

Coach Tom Coughlin believes QB Jim Sorgi will require surgery on his injured shoulder. When asked if QB Rhett Bomar is ready to be QB Eli Manning’s backup, Coughlin said, “Keep playing, keep working with him. He’s talented. We’ll see how far he can go with it.”

Coach Tom Coughlin hasn’t gotten a complete picture from LB Keith Bulluck at outside linebacker. “I wish I would have had a chance to see a little bit more with the run game,” Coughlin said. Bulluck is battling LB Clint Sintim for the starting spot.

TE Travis Beckum aggravated his neck injury Monday and did not practice Tuesday. “He has to have more research done,” coach Tom Coughlin said.

Coach Tom Coughlin said LB Keith Bulluck and S Kenny Phillips will see time in Thursday’s exhibition because, “they didn’t play in that first game so they’re anxious to get a few more snaps.”

WR Sinorice Moss texted WR Victor Cruz to alert the rookie of his season-ending surgery, but that’s not the only thing the veteran receiver conveyed. “He texts me every day with ‘good luck’ or ‘do good on this route today,'” Cruz said.

With WR Sinorice Moss on injured reserve, WR Victor Cruz has a better chance to make the team. But that doesn’t mean he was happy to hear about Moss’ surgery. “I was sad,” Cruz said. “He’s my teammate and my friend first. I just want him to get healthy.”

Prior to his injury, LB Adrian Tracy played defensive end in pass-rushing situations. LB Clint Sintim moonlighted in that role last season, but was surprised to see himself back at it Saturday against Baltimore. “I didn’t think I was going to play D-line last game,” Sintim said.

T Jay Alford had some soreness in his knee after pushing himself in practice last week. Coming off of Saturday’s game, however, Alford says his knee feels fine and he’s ready to continue to push it. He missed last season with a torn ACL.

After running in a straight line this week, LB Chase Blackburn (knee) hopes to return to practice next week. “It’s stiff,” he said. “I still feel it. … Hopefully Friday or Saturday I’ll be able to test that a little bit more side to side.”
