Second Half Notes

• More front 7 goodness:

– JPP got around the edge to force a cutback on Laurence Maroney, Johnathan Goff came in for the final stop for the loss.  The Giants run defense has looked good this preseason to say the least.

– Jay Alford got pressure and forced an errant throw that was brought in by Jonathan Goff, for the second INT of the game.

• Shawn Andrews single handedly paved the way for DJ Ware to pick up a 4th and 1 attempt… he got so far into the secondary with his blocking that I thought it was a pass play for a second.  (not really, but it was great blocking from the 2 time pro bowler… what a great pickup by the Giants BTW)

• GREAT goal line stand from the Giants, John Goff with a couple of crucial stops right on the line, Bryan Kehl with the 4th down stop. This defense is fired up.

• Tim Brown needs a miracle to make this team right now, he dropped 2 passes that were right in his hands. You have to make those plays to make the team, plain and simple, you don’t get that many opportunities… especially when Bomar is the one slinging it.

• Rhett Bomar is a Jekyll and Hyde QB, there’s nothing more frustrating to see than the Giants work their way 70 yards down field from inside their own 10 yardline and then have the QB throw a pick inside the other 10 yard line at the other end of the field.  Bomar had some good throws on the drive, and some bad ones, like the high wounded duck that got tipped and eventually picked off by the Patriots.

• Bruce Johnson, thanks for that pic-6 last year…. but what a lousy preseason you’ve had this year.  I don’t think he’s going to get cut, but the Giants can’t possibly feel good about putting him on the field the way he’s been playing.  A total liability.

• Duke Calhoun has been wide open all night… several high passes from Bomar though have made it difficult for him to reel in those opportunities.  Would love to see more of him with Eli though is the point.

• And speaking of Duke Calhoun, the dude just took a 15 yard square in 60 yards for a touchdown with a perfect pass from Bomar.  To make it even more interesting… the Giants converted the 2-point attempt on, you guessed it, a draw play to Gartrell Johnson.

• John Goff may end up being the starting MLB next week, great broken up pass on a 2nd down out route that was critical to convert for the Patriots.
