Fewell Has Coordinated Best Secondary In Giants History

"The New York Giants secondary is for real. They tackle, cause fumbles, cover big time receivers, intercept the ball and for the most part (Rolle) go about their business in a true, professional way."

It’s a great reminder of what changes in scheme, personell, energy, and trust get you these days in the NFL.   To go from having one of the worst defensive backfields in the league in 2009, and then have a top rated defense the very next year — it’s INCREDIBLE. The Giants have gone from bottom to top of the league in one year not only because of Perry Fewell, but he’s a very, very large part of the equation.

"As far as motivation for this week is concerned, last year’s embarrassing 44-7 season-ending loss to Minnesota is still fresh in the minds of the Giants.“Let’s just say we haven’t forgotten what happened there. I’ll just leave it at that. We know what the final score was and we know what happened in there,” said Snee. “It’s already been talked about. Let’s leave it at that."

"“The Redskins were first on the list, so we did what we had to do.”They’ll have to do it again in four weeks. Washington is on the schedule for the Week 17 finale. But more importantly, the Eagles are only 12 days away. While there’s clearly an important game on the schedule this weekend against the Vikings, the fact of the matter is it isn’t nearly as important as the game that will follow."

Not long after the Giants put the finishing touches on an easy 31-7 rout of the Redskins, but before Tom Coughlin in the victorious postgame locker room was finished lauding his team, there was a “don’t forget” warning that the Giants probably didn’t need to be reminded of. Coughlin said he wanted to make sure his club had “a very good recollection” of what went down in last year’s season finale in Minnesota, a 44-7 thrashing to the Vikings that wasn’t even that close.

No matter what happens in the Giants-Vikings or Eagles-Cowboys games this weekend, the winner of the Dec. 12 matchup between the teams currently tied for first place in the NFC East will be in sole possession of that spot heading into the last two weeks of the season.

There’s a reason most fans want to stick with Brett Favre come hell-or-high water, and that reason is simply is: they remember the years 2006-2008 when Jackson bounced back-and-forth between starter and back-up like a slightly drunken pinball, all the while demonstrating the natural football instincts of a person who had never heard of football much less played it.

In the NFC this season, 10 wins might not be enough. “That’s what you live for and that’s what you play for. That’s exciting,” defensive tackle Barry Cofield said Monday. “You get to the end of a long, hard season, you want to have pressure and you want to have something to play for. You want to have excitement and things on the line at the end of the season. I’d definitely rather be in this scenario than 2-10 and just packing up your stuff.”
