Redskins Cut Punter/Holder Hunter Smith

The missed extra point hear ’round the world has cost Hunter Smith his job with the Washington Redskins. Had the point been made, the Redskins would have tied the game against the Bucs at 17 and, barring a kickoff return for a touchdown, would have brought the game into overtime. Smith has been replaced by Sam Paulescu.

It seems this play was the final straw for Smith who, according to si.com:

"…was also struggling as a punter. His gross average of 40.5 ranks 30th in the NFL, and his net average of 33.7 yards ranks 31st."
