Mark Herzlich Now A Giant

In preparation for the lockout to end GMEN HQ came up with a list of free agent players at each position that we thought the Giants might go after or who we believed would be a good fit for the team.

Today the Giants signed one of them, Mark Herzlich. Everybody’s familiar with his story. In 2008 he won the ACC Defensive Player of the Year as he racked up 110 total tackles to go along with 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 6 interceptions. Most people thought he’d come back and have another dominating season but he had to sit out the entire 2009 season because of bone cancer. He would overcome his bone cancer and return to football to have a strong 2010 season, starting 13 games and making 65 tackles.

Herzlich became an instant motivational story and some thought he’d have a shot at being drafted in the 7th round but teams were wary to give up a pick on a player who may have lost some of his speed and explosion. The one thing he didn’t lose was his determination and will to play and achieve success on the field and he’s found himself in a pretty good situation with the Giants. They need linebacking help and there’s a great chance he’ll make their game day season roster.
