WR Steve Smith has not been re-signed by the Giants… and that leads to all kinds of speculation, naturally. Now via the Arizona Football Examiner, the latest rumor going around is that the Arizona Cardinals are interested:
According to a couple of different sources, mostly via twitter, New York Giants receiver Steve Smith could be headed to Flagstaff to join the Cardinals soon.
Steve Smith, at 5’11 195 pounds would be a great compliment to Larry Fitzgerald and the massively upgraded Cardinals passing attack. Steve Smith at 26 years old is entering his 5th season in the NFL and was wanting a contract extension in New York last offseason.
This may or may not hold water, but regardless Steve Smith will not be staring week one on the Giants. Best case scenario right now is he starts on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) and joins the team 4 weeks into the season.
If you want to get negative about it, reminds me of David Tyree — and we all know how that turned out. Gulp.
