Osi May Need Surgery

Looks like Osi is now considering literally cutting his nose off to spite his face.

Today he has told the Giants that he still cannot practice because of his sore knee and that he may need surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Should he go to this extreme, he will miss part of the regular season. Yeah, there’s a great idea! Let’s break this one down, shall we?

Osi has not performed to the best of his ability since before the 2008 season, when he went down with torn cartilage and had season-ending surgery. During this past offseason, he had hip surgery and has since claimed he has never felt better and is ready to perform. Two surgeries in three years on a 29 year old football player gives any team cause for concern. One of the main reasons the Giants haven’t given in to his demands is because of the surgeries, injury concerns and his age.

So what’s the brilliant solution Osi comes up with? Another surgery. I’m sure teams would be knocking his door down with a third injury under his belt and limited playing time during the 2011 season. After all, Kiwi is no slouch at DE and Osi probably would not be a starter for any part of the season, barring injury to others.

Granted, Osi could be telling the truth, and a surgery might be necessary. If that is the case then he needs a serious dose of reality. What team, especially one that is capable of winning more than two games a season, is going to pay a 30 year old guy with three surgeries under his belt the kind of big money, long term contract he is looking for? This whole situation is ridiculous, and I am seriously regretting the purchase of my number 72 jersey!
