UPDATE: Smith will be out for 1-2 weeks with dislocated finger

via Rotoworld:

"Though X-rays were negative, Steve Smith expects to be sidelined for a week or two after dislocating his finger.Smith’s injury is similar to Andre Johnson’s in that the bone broke through the skin. Smith’s finger will require stitches, so he’ll miss the preseason opener. He should be back practicing by the time the Panthers leave camp."

The Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (not-so-affectionately referred to as “the Other Steve Smith” by NY Giants fans) was carted off the field during todays practice. Inside the Panthers has the report:

"Panthers receiver Steve Smith is scheduled to go undergo X-rays today after injuring his finger near the end of the Panthers’ 2 1/2-hour practice. Smith was carted off the field after injuring himself in a 7-on-7 drill.“It was a little concerning but what I was told was they wanted to get it up and get a picture of it,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. “I’m not sure what happened. It obviously happened downfield somewhere. Trainers went to him immediately and the next thing I know he was headed up.”"

The Giants of course play the Panthers on the road this Saturday night at 8pm. But the feud between both Giants WRs named Steve Smith will have to wait until next year as both players are unlikely to take part in the preseason opener this weekend.
