Burress Gets Closure, Confirms He Wanted A Fresh Start Elsewhere

Plaxico Burress confirmed to the press what everyone else on the planet already knew as soon as he was about to be released from prison — that he would likely seek a new organization to play football for and not the New York Giants.

He said:

"“Personally, I think I just needed a fresh start. If I wanted to go somewhere and make money, I could have went a couple other places and got a two- or three-year deal, different things like that. But I just wanted an opportunity to go somewhere fresh and have an opportunity to play for a great organization and a great coach in Rex (Ryan) and a great team.“And I feel like I’m in the right place.”"

He didn’t want to sign with the Giants — he just wanted to meet with the front office and thank them for the opportunities they afforded him. Interestingly though, if the Giants had matched the Jets $3million in guaranteed money Burress acknowledged that he would have been open to rejoining the Giants instead of the Jets.

Hmm, we’ll see how this story shakes out around week 16.
