Here are some tidbits from around the league.

Jason Witten will not require surgery on his partially ruptured spleen.  The All Pro Tight End for the Dallas Cowboys will remain resting, and the team says he will be available to play opening night against the Giants on Wednesday September 5th.  How effective Witten will be remains to be seen.

Andy Reid announced that Michael Vick will miss the remainder of pre-season, but that he will be ready to play September 9th in Cleveland.  The question is why even have him play the pre-season? Vick, who was 3 for 4 for 6 yards in the first pre-season game before being removed because of injury, followed that up with a 1 for 3 for 5 yard effort in game two before being knocked out of that game.  If that’s all he needs to get ready, he could have just thrown on the side opening day and been declared fit.  The question that needs to be answered is not if Vick will start the opener, but how long can he last.

Aaron Kromer has been named the interim to the interim head coach for the New Orleans Saints.  As most everyone knows Sean Payton was suspended for the year, and Joe Vitt was named interim head coach, but he is suspended for the first 6 games of the season, so the Saints needed a plan c.

On the other side of town the Jets announced today that the guy they named their starting right tackle after two days of training camp, will no longer be the starter.  Might help if you see the guy actually play before you name them starters…just a suggestion Rex.

Eli Manning will be joining Mike Francesa on WFAN at 5:05 Eastern time the day after Giants games this year, and presumably for a few years to come.  The announcement was made yesterday.  Francesa has had Antonio Pierce and Justin Tuck in that spot the last few years, but know he has landed the starting QB.  Nice job.
