It was a back and forth battle for points on the scoreboard in the first half between the Redskins and Giants that led to a 13-13 tie at halftime.

It was a good and entertaining first half between these two teams, a very good one. The Redskins have looked impressive on offense starting with an absolute monster drive that went for 17 plays and took 9:11. However, the Giants goal line defense stepped up as the Redskins were unable to punch it in for a touchdown and settled for 3 points from Kai Forbath. The Giants answered right back with a 80-yard drive that was capped off by Andre Brown’s 1 yard td dive into the end zone. The Redskins countered that with a screen pass that went for 26 yards to 36-year old wide receiver Santana Moss for a touchdown, helping Washinton regain the lead. The Giants were able to tie the game up at 10 with a Lawrence Tynes 27-yard feid goal. However the Redskins wouldn’t back down as RG3 helped get them into position for a 43-yard field goal from Forbath briefly giving Washington the lead. The Giants capped off the 1st half scoring with a surgical-like drive from Eli Manning in the 2-minute offense that led to a 39-yard field goal from Tynes to tie the game at 13.

The Giants defensive line was worn down by the ground attack of the Redskins in the first half. Rookie running back Alfred Morris ran through holes with wreckless abandon for 94 yards on 13 carries. Washington’s mix of hard running from Morris and the elusive moves of quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) has given their offense an added dimemsion that is fun to watch.

Notables:

Tight End Martellus Bennett posted 4 catches for 62 yards in the first half. Bennett only had 5 catches over the last 3 weeks.

Redskins big play tight end Fred Davis went down and then went out with a left achillies injury that looks like it might derail his season. That’s a huge loss for Washington, Davis is the Redskins leading receiver this season.

The Giants are going to have to find a way to slow down the Redskins ground game in the second half. Manning missed on a few passes that he normally converts and he’ll have to make adjustments in the second half. This is a must-win for the Giants, they are 0-2 in the NFC east division this season. This has the makings of a game that could be decided late in the 4th quarter.
