Steven Jackson Voids Final Year of Contract

Steven Jackson of the St. Louis Rams decided to allow the final year of his contract void without taking his player option.  Earlier in the off-season Coach Jeff Fischer said he hoped things worked out between the team and Jackson and that he would be back.  Now they will have to see how badly other teams may want him to play for them.

Jackson at age 29 who has rushed for more than 10,000 yards in his career had a 4.1 yards per carry last season, just under his career 4.2 average.  He also had 38 catches for 321 yards out of the backfield.  At 29, Jackson is at that strange point in the new NFL where he is getting a bit older, and could be replaced by a younger, cheaper back.  Jackson was due 7 million for this upcoming season.

Could the Giants be interested?  I think that all depends on the health of Andre Brown and Da’Rell Scott, and who is available in the middle rounds of the draft, and of course how much Steven is willing to play for in his pursuit of a championship.
