Giants Get to 75 Players Early

With the season ending for Stevie Brown due to injury, it also ended for a few more players as the Giants reached the mandatory limit of 75 forty eight hours early.  Of course some of this will change, but here is the list:

The players released today were Linebacker Aaron Curry, Fullback Ben Guidugli; Wide Receivers Brandon Collins (who faces a four-game NFL suspension at the beginning of the season) and Terrence Sinkfield; Tight Ends Jamie Childers and Chase Clement; Offensive Linemen Michael Jasper and Austin Holtz; Linebackers Jake Muasau and Etienne Sabino; Defensive Tackle Frank Okam; and Defensive Backs Laron Scott, Junior Mertile and Alonzo Tweedy.

The Giants will take the current 75-man roster to New England for the final preseason game Thursday night in Gillette Stadium. All NFL teams must reach the regular-season 53-man roster limit by 6 p.m. eastern time on Saturday.

There has been much speculation today the the Giants may look to bring back Safety Kenny Phillips who was released by the Eagles, but of course the question always is if one of the worst defenses in the league can do without a player like Phillips…how healthy can he be?  I don’t see the moves being discussed today like Brandon Jacobs being re-signed or Deon Grant coming out of retirement as being more that fan speculation, and media guys trying to fuel a few conversations.  The Giants and most NFL teams don’t usually pull panic moves after pre-season games.

Stay tuned for more roster moves and speculation as the week continues.
