Vikings’ Freeman Will Start vs. Giants

UPDATE: Vikings have announced Freeman will indeed be the starter this week.

According to NFL.com, the Minnesota Vikings are hoping that Josh Freeman learns their playbook fast enough to start Monday night’s game in the Meadowlands.  The 25-year old showed talent and inconsistency for 4+ seasons in Tampa Bay before being released this year amid reports that he was feuding with coach Greg Schiano. With Christian Ponder injured/ineffective and Matt Cassel being Matt Cassel, the Vikings brought in Freeman to bolster an offense with little talent outside of Adrian Peterson. It makes sense that they would want to give Freeman his first start against the Giants, against whom opposing quarterbacks have posted an average QB rating of 97.6 (9th worst in the NFL, just behind Minnesota). That being said, he’ll probably have a very simplified playbook to work with given that he’s been with the team for less than 2 weeks.
