According to Fox Sports’ Mike Garafolo, Giants running back Brandon Jacobs is highly doubtful to play tonight versus the Vikings. The Giants haven’t taken the field in 11 days, but the hiatus still wasn’t sufficient for Jacobs to heal a troublesome hamstring. Rookie Michael Cox, who has yet to take a handoff in a professional game, is expected to hold down primary ball carrying duties — this might not be particularly significant given Minnesota’s cavernous pass defense. Using Tom Coughlin’s past history as a guide, it’s reasonably safe to anticipate Cox will be replaced by zero upside runner Peyton Hillis after one series. Not surprisingly the Giants remained a 3.5-point choice following the updated injury status.

Given his 50/50 label for tonight’s game, one would expect Jacobs to be ready for week eight at Philadelphia. However, healing times for a hamstring can be tricky. The Giants have their official bye in week nine.
