Wyoming quarterback Brett Smith, who many keen scouting eyes have tabbed as a sleeper prospect for quite some time, will not be granted the opportunity to strut his stuff at Lucas Oil Stadium. An early entrant and three-year starter, Smith is supremely mobile — scrambling outside the pocket with intent to pass, not to run. It should be noted that most of his in-the-pocket throws were quick reads and screen types. The arm strength is present, just not necessarily in the traditional “NFL throw” sense of the term. There are clearly concerns in NFL circles regarding his ability to make pro reads (despite a 76:28 TD:INT ratio). Nevertheless, Smith deserved an invite over several selected attendees.
Quarterbacks who will be participating at the scouting combine from February 22-25 include:
Blake Bortles, Central Florida
Tajh Boyd, Clemson
Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville
Derek Carr, Fresno State
David Fales, San Jose State
