Jordan Raanan of NJ.com has reported that cornerback Trumaine McBride will sign a two-year $3.1 million deal with the Giants on Tuesday afternoon. The former 7th round draft pick out of Mississippi made $630,000 last season, unexpectedly starting ten games at LCB following the demise of Corey Webster.

While McBride finished the season as a top-24 rated corner by Pro Football Focus (6.6), much of his accolades were procured in week 17 versus Washington. He earned a 4.5 pass coverage grade that afternoon, with six passes defensed (15 total) and two interceptions (2 total).

This is a security/depth signing by the Giants at a more than reasonable price. However, McBride, who will turn 29 in September, is not a starting-caliber CB in regular duty. True positional upgrades must be addressed on draft day, unless they decide to break the bank for a shutdown option like Alterraun Verner.
