UPDATE: Previous deal with Schofield has been voided. The Giants are reportedly still interested in his services at a vastly reduced price.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported via twitter that the Giants deal with OLB/DE O’Brien Schofield is currently on hold. Less than 24 hours after agreeing to a 2-year $8 million offer, Schofield’s knee raised red flags during the physical exam. He tore his ACL at the 2010 Senior Bowl, but he’s stayed on the field outside of an ankle injury suffered in 2012.

With his talents centered around speed and explosion off the edge, any physical concerns will be magnified. Given the handsome price they paid for a marginally productive player (statistically), the Giants will be thorough in evaluating his medical profile. This was a signing based on potential.
