With the 113th pick in the 2014 NFL draft the New York Giants select… Andre Williams, RB, Boston College!

Andre Williams has good size at 5’11, 230lbs. He is a powerful runner who had a fantastic senior season, leading the nation in rushing yards (2,177) and was a Heisman trophy finalist. Williams is a prototypical Giants type back, but also exhibits decent speed for a his size. The Giants coaching staff will like that he is solid in pass protection and he should be a good replacement for Andre Brown who left in free agency, especially around the goal line (18 touchdowns last year).

Williams struggles catching passes, only 10 career receptions, so he should fit right in with the Giants in that aspect, as well. Has the upside of possibly being a workhorse runningback, but most likely will be a situational player in the NFL. Williams is decent value at this point, and was the top runningback on the board by many draft pundits.

I think old school Giants’ fans will love this pick, but I am not sold on Williams fit in the new look Giants’ offense. I am a little tired of watching their backs be terrible in the receiving game, so I hope he can be coached up in that aspect. Overall, I am satisfied with this selection, but not overly excited.

Also, wanted to give a shout out to my guy @jason_bergmann who pounded the table for him in our #MockOne war room and @eyeofthegator who grabbed him for us in the sixth round.
