The Hall of Fame game is in 35 days.

Over the years, there haven’t been a lot of great number 35’s on the New York Football Giants. You would think since 1925 someone would stand out, but no; it’s pretty barren at number 35 for the Jints. This season, the Giants added Quintin Demps, a fine return man and a pinch safety. Even with those simple attributes, Quintin Demps has an opportunity to be the best number 35 in the history of BLUE’s organization.

And, all of that with just 35 days until the Hall of Fame Game kickoff.

1935 was the championship hangover year from the Giants winning it all in 1934. Sure, the Giants made it back to the Championship Game, but they lost 26-7 to the League Champion ’35 Detroit Lions. The amazing thing about the New York Football Giants isn’t only that they’ve won 8 combined championships… it’s that they’ve lost a combined 12. And been involved in 20. That’s some NFL stat.

As for other Giants players that wore number 35.  Last year, Andre Brown wore the number and honored his own 35, by rushing for 3.5 YPC.

Perhaps you’re a huge Kevin Dockery fan, he wore 35. In fact, he had 35 combined tackles in his first year as a Giants player. Is he the best 35 of All-Time?

Ed Valentine over at Big Blue View gave Giants fans this in 2010: Giants By The Numbers: 35 Is For …

"Believe it or not, I am taking a pass on this number. In the entire history of the franchise, I can’t find a player worthy of having this number referred to as “his.”So, apologies to Kevin Dockery (2006-2009), Andre Weathers (1999-2000), Ike Forte (1981) and everyone else who has worn this number."

Ed went on to say that the next person to wear it with distinction would be the best ever. Well… entering 2014, that hasn’t happened yet. With that in mind, and 35 days until the HOF game, can the GIANTS new 35 end up as the best ever? Or is it just a number doomed for GIANT failure…

Is it football season yet?
