Rashad Jennings-Update; Andre Williams Going Forward

New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings will miss yet another week of action and is expected to return after the bye week following visiting the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday. When Jennings initially went down, his initial prognosis had him missing three weeks at most. If there was any good news that came out of this it was that he will likely miss only two games when factoring in the bye week.

  • Jennings sprained his MCL during the team’s 30-20 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Per the NY Daily News, head coach Tom Coughlin “hopes” to have Jennings back in uniform following the bye week. Whether that hope is a reality has yet to be confirmed. During this period, Andre Williams is expected to receive the majority of handoffs with some Peyton Hillis sprinkled in from time-to-time although there was a 32/34 split between snaps for Williams and Hillis, respectively, during the 27-0 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles (Conor Orr, NFL.com).

The running game is something that needs to be found again and Coughlin has let it be known.

"“Where is it? Well, until last weekend it was pretty good, and we need to find that again. It starts with the offensive line, obviously,” Coughlin said on Wednesday. “We’ll work hard on that this week.” (Orr)"

It is unfortunate to lose Jennings despite the bye week being mixed in because they come during critical games in which the Giants played, or will play, the Eagles and Cowboys. Williams was bottled up last Sunday Night against the Eagles but to be fair – the entire offense, and team, never really got it going.

Going forward, Williams can be expected to receive 15-20 handoffs with passing-down duties being limited he continues to struggle in pass-blocking. What he does on the ground is up to him and his offensive line as both areas need to improve dramatically during this stretch.
