New York Giants Have Best WR Combo In NFL

Did somebody order a boatload of salsa dancing and one handed catches? That is exactly what the New York Giants hope to see from their new Batman and Robin like pairing that is Victor Cruz and Odell Beckham Jr. who had an incredible rookie season. The two wide receivers may be the best combination in the NFL.

We all know that Eli Manning loves to throw the football to Cruz. In each of his first three seasons, Cruz was targeted over 120 times. Last season Cruz was injured early on, and only played in 6 games. While he was sidelined a new star was born. Beckham became a sensation. In his rookie season he caught 91 receptions for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Now the football world is waiting to see what the two superstar receivers can do in tandem. One could realistically expect the two receivers to hover around 1,000 yards and 10 or more touchdowns each. This is of course assuming that Cruz returns with the same burst and that they both stay healthy.

It was hard enough to stop Cruz or Beckham who both received a bulk of defensive attention. Now defenses are tasked with stopping both of them. You can’t double team both receivers. The defensive coordinators will be forced to pick their poison.

If you double cover or roll your coverage to one of the receivers, the other will tear you apart. It is akin to when the Arizona Cardinals had Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. No matter what you do to stop them, something bad is about to happen.

There are two comparable receiving combinations in the NFL. First there is the Chicago Bears who have Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Then there is the Atlanta Falcons who have Julio Jones and Roddy White. For my money, there is no better combination than Cruz and Beckham.
