New York Giants: All Or Nothing For Offensive Line

With the 2015 season vastly approaching, it’s time to think about how the New York Giants will line up, especially when it comes to their offensive line. The Giants’ offensive line has been more or less mediocre over the past three years. If the Giants want to make a run at the playoffs, then it’s up to their offensive line. Believe it or not, the Giants’ season is on the shoulders of it and is solely dependent on them. The Giants have placed all the pieces for their offense, but the line needs to be healthy and consistent if they want to succeed.

There’s absolutely no doubt that the Giants can score with the arm of Eli Manning and his targets Odell Beckham Jr, Rueben Randle and if he stays healthy, Victor Cruz. The Giants solid running pick up of this off-season and ex-New England Patriot Shane Vereen could provide that run game that the Giants need to succeed.

The Giants’ rushing game was less than stellar mainly because of their offensive line. Their line suffered injuries and were shuffled around mid-season which in turn affected the run game. If they want to survive this season, then they have to rank higher than 23rd in the rushing category in the NFL.

An offensive line is crucial on every team for obvious reasons. If you keep a quarterback safe, then he has more time to throw accurate passes to his receivers. The more holes the line provides, the more yards the running backs gain which in turn makes the chains move. Vereen is a solid back for the Giants because he’s explosive and can break tackles, but the line must be healthy for it to come altogether.

The big signing on the line was Geoff Schwartz last year, but he’s coming off major ankle surgery. They can look to Justin Pugh, Will Beatty and veteran Adam Snyder. They have the ability to become one of the most consistent lines in the NFL, if they can stay healthy. Another reason why the Giants’ line suffered was too much shuffling around, when that happens consistency is thrown out the window and the whole offensive unit is broken down.

It really is all or nothing for this offensive line, if they stay consistent and healthy, Manning and his receivers will prosper. The running game will improve which is what the offense needs to be complete. Once the offensive line gets it together, then the Giants will have a solid run for the upcoming season where the sky is the limit.

If the line hits the same snags like they have in the past, then the Giants’ season could be quite the long one due to frustrations of not getting the job done offensively.
