ESPN reported Dallas Cowboys guard Ronald Leary has requested a trade out of Big D, following a year in which he saw his starts plummeted from 15 to 4 and his left guard position relinquished to 22-year-old La’el Collins. Should the New York Giants consider signing the fifth-year man from Memphis?

Leary is still relatively young, having just turned 27 in April, and has shown to be a steady presence on the offensive line after starting all but one game between 2013-2014 after going undrafted coming out of college due to a degenerative left knee condition.

The much maligned right side of the Giants offensive line has endured its share of criticism not only this offseason, but for the better part of two years.  The right side still lacks considerable depth and appears to be running the same configuration as the majority of last season, with John Jerry at right guard, and Marshall Newhouse at tackle.

  • The right side was the less productive unit and it certainly would not hurt to add an additional veteran presence who has shown to be a reliable starter on a good football team. The only issue is Leary hasn’t played a single game on the right side; all his starts came at left guard.

Leary requested a trade after signing his restricted free agent offer this offseason, but following the draft, no trade offers materialized and he is now employing his only form of leverage and sitting out the Cowboys OTAs.

His season’s prospects appear to again be back-up duty in Dallas and they very well could be the same if he were to end up on the Giants, but a trade shipping perhaps Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to Dallas for a younger and proven player would perk the interests of the droves of pundits and fans that have called for offensive line additions this entire offseason.
