The Chicago Bears aren’t expected to give Alshon Jeffery the franchise tag. Could the New York Giants create the best wide receiver corps in the NFL?

The New York Giants stunned the masses by parting ways with veteran wide receiver Victor Cruz. Though many expected the move to be executed, it put an end to an unforgettable era—an era that Cruz played a crucial role in defining.

On Monday, Feb. 27, New York received news that a star-caliber replacement could be available in free agency.

Alshon Jeffery has been one of the most dynamic wide receivers in the NFL since his breakout season in 2013. The former second-round draft pick has the size, athleticism, and catch radius to take over games in an almost unparalleled manner.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chicago Bears may have created a unique opportunity for the Giants by opting against placing the franchise tag on Alshon Jefferey.

That could create an intriguing opportunity for the Giants to build the best receiving corps in the NFL.

Jeffery has a projected market value of $12.2 million per season, which could be out of New York’s price range. He’ll likely be seeking a contract in the range of $15 million per season, however, which would effectively eliminate him from consideration.

If Reese is willing to go all-in on the passing attack like he did the defense, however, Jeffery could be a franchise-altering acquisition.

The combination of Odell Beckham Jr., Jeffery, and Sterling Shepard would rank amongst the best receiving corps in the NFL, if not run away as the clear No. 1.

Beckham is an established superstar and Shepard had eight touchdowns during his strong rookie season. Jeffery, meanwhile, amassed 2,554 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns between 2013 and 2014. He tallied 1,628 yards in just 21 games played between 2015 and 2016.

Injuries have become an undeniable concern, but the 6’3″ Jeffery would be the perfect complement to Beckham, Shepard, and Eli Manning.
